Two-wheel tractors have replaced outdated farming tools, helping Ethiopian farmers reduce drudgery, improve productivity and increase their profits.
In Ethiopia, farming systems rely heavily on animal and human power, reducing productivity and efficiency. In recent years, the government and development partners have made significant efforts to modernize agriculture. In 2013, CIMMYT with financial support from GIZ, USAID, and the Australian government, introduced one-axel multipurpose tractors in various districts of Amhara, Oromia, South, and Tigray regions. This new technology has helped to improve farmers’ lives and phase out outdated farming practices. Farmers have reduced drudgery, improved productivity, and gained higher profits.
