High winds, lightning, heavy rain, hail alert for N India
On a day the India Met Department (IMD) came out with its long-range forecast for the monsoon, an alert has been sounded about an ‘active’ western disturbance moving in along the international border to North-West India.
Western disturbances are classified as ‘active’ or ‘intense’ depending on their capacity to set up thunderstorms, hailstorms, high winds and heavy rain.
The arrival of such a system into North-West and adjoining Central India after a break comes at a time when they are least needed and fervently wished away by farmers preparing the farms for harvest.
The active western disturbance lay over East Iran and neighbourhood on Monday and would move east-northeastwards across Afghanistan, Pakistan and North-West India from Monday to Wednesday.
Under its influence, an induced cyclonic circulation has developed over South-West Rajasthan and neighbourhood on Monday, which would be the principal creator of weather for now.
The circulation will pump in moisture from both the Arabian Sea as well as from the Bay of Bengal, which indicates its size and reach, with both the streams meeting over Central India from Tuesday to Thursday.
Under the influence of above weather systems, light scattered rain/thundershower would occur over Jammu & Kashmir and isolated over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Monday.
Its intensity and spread would increase thereafter with light to moderate widespread rain/thundershower on Wednesday and Thursday and decrease significantly thereafter.
Heavy rain/showers would occur over Jammu & Kashmir on Tuesday. Thundersquall with wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph accompanied with rain, hail and lightning may lash the Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Tuesday and Thursday.
Thunderstorm/dust storm accompanied with gusty winds speed reaching speed of 40-50 km/hr, light rains and lightning are forecast for Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on Monday and over Rajasthan on following days.
Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning, hailstorm and squall with wind speed reaching 60- to 70 km/hr is forecast along with light to moderate widespread rainfall over Punjab; fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi; and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over West Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Isolated thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty winds speed reaching 40- to 50 km/hr along with light rain would occur over Gujarat region on Monday; over North Maharashtra and West Madhya Pradesh on both Monday and Tuesday; and over East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Marathwada, Vidarbha, Jharkhand and Odisha from Tuesday to Thursday.
As for the national capital region, generally cloudy conditions and dust storm/thunderstorms accompanied with light rain would occur at many places along with hailstorm and squall with wind speed of 60- to 70 km/hr on Tuesday and Wednesday.
