Significant Weather Features;
The Cyclonic Storm 'PHETHAI' over Coastal Andhra Pradesh moved north-northeastwards with a speed of 13 kmph during past 06 hours, weakened into a Deep Depression and lay centred at 1730 hours IST of 17th December, 2018, over westcentral Bay of Bengal near Latitude 16.9°N and Longitude 82.4°E, close to Kakinada coast.It is very likely to move north-northeastwards and cross Andhra Pradesh coast close to Tuni during night of today, the 17th December 2018. It will gradually weaken further into a Depression during next six hours and into a well marked low pressure area during subsequent six hours. ♦ A feeble western disturbance as a trough in lower tropospheric westerlies with it's axis at 3.1 km above mean sea level runs roughly along 65° E to north of 30°N. Under its influence isolated rain/snow likely over high reaches of Jammu & Kashmir on 18th and 19th December.

Rainfall observed (from 0830 hours IST to 1730 hrs IST of today): Rain/thundershower observed at most places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Gangetic west Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. at many places over Telangana; and at isolated places over East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Sub-Himalayan west Bengal & Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura.
♦ Rainfall recorded at 1730 hours IST of today (2 cm & more) are:Vishakhapatnam-11; Kakinada-7; Tuni-6; Kalingapatam3; Narsapur and Jharsiguda-2each.
♦ Maximum temperature departures as on 17-12-2018: Maximum temperatures are appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at a few places over Tamilnadu & Puducherry and Himachal Pradesh; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at a few places over Lakshadweep and Rayalaseema; and at isolated places over East Uttar Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya and Punjab;They are Markedly below normal( -5.1°C or less) at most places over Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Telangana; at many places over East Madhya Pradesh and Coastal Andhra Pradesh; at a few places over West Madhya Pradesh; appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to -5.0°C) at many places over Gujarat region; at a few places over East Rajasthan and Saurashtra & Kutch; and at isolated places over Madhya Maharashtra; below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at most places over Madhya Maharashtra, Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim; at a few places over Coastal & North Interior Karnataka and near normal over rest of the country. the highest maximum temperature of 35.2°C are recorded at Kozhikode (Kerala) over the country.
♦ Minimum temperature departures as on 17-12-2018: Minimum temperatures are appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to -5.0°C) at a few places over Jammu & Kashmir and at isolated place over West Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh; below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at many places over Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and Madhya Maharashtra and at isolated places over East Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh, Konkan & Goa, Coastal & South Interior Karnataka and Tamilnadu & Puducherry. They are markedly above normal (5.1°C or more) at many places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura; appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at many places over Assam & Meghalaya and Bihar; at a few places over Gangetic West Bengal and Andaman & Nicobar Islands and at isolated places over Vidarbha and Telangana; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over Jharkhand; at many places over Arunachal Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and Chhattisgarh; at a few places over Odisha and Rayalaseema and at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Saurashtra & Kutch and near normal over rest of the country.The lowest minimum temperature of 1.8°C recorded at Churu (East Rajasthan) over the plains of the country.
