The ICAR-Directorate of Rapeseed-Mustard Research, Bharatpur, Rajasthan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the M/s Advanta / UPL Limited, Hyderabad for the non-exclusive Licensing of Rapeseed-Mustard Hybrid - NRCHB-506.
Dr. P.K. Rai, Director, ICAR-DRMR, Bharatpur, and Dr. Shailesh Kumar, Representative, M/s UPL Limited signed the MoU on the behalf of their respective organizations.
In his address, Dr. P.K. Rai stressed that the commercialization of high-yielding new varieties/hybrids shall help in bringing more areas under the improved and promising varieties/hybrids that can help to enhance the production and productivity of oilseed especially Rapeseed-Mustard in the country.
Rapeseed-Mustard Hybrid - NRCHB-506
1) A hybrid of Indian mustard through heterosis breeding using the microconidia cytoplasmic genetic male sterility system. Dr. P.K. Rai, Director, ICAR-DRMR, Bharatpur, and Dr. Shailesh Kumar, Representative, M/s UPL Limited signed the MoU on the behalf of their respective organizations.

Rapeseed-Mustard Hybrid - NRCHB-506
2) It is considered an important milestone in Brassica research in the country.
3) The hybrid is named NRC Sankar Sarson (NRCHB 506).hybrid has shown superior oil yield by a margin of about 26%, and 20 % over existing popular varieties of the region in 11 trials across 5 states.
4) This hybrid is of medium maturity duration (133 days), medium in height (190 cm), and has 40.6 % high oil content.
5) It has shown wide adaptability.
6) Mustard is the second most important oilseed crop in the country and is expected to contribute to self-sufficiency in edible oils.
